Because of this cabinet (in The Netherlands), hundreds of millions of animals face years more of hell on earth
Simon van Teutem · De Correspondent · 2-minute read (in Dutch)

We'll send an animal ambulance for an injured cat. Meanwhile, broiler chickens, bred to four times their 1950s weight, spend their whole lives standing in their own waste. The law says a puppy must stay with its mother for seven weeks. A calf is taken away from its lowing mother the moment it's born. Van Teutem calls it cognitive dissonance on an industrial scale.

With the farmers' party gone from the cabinet, it looked like there was finally a chance to change that. Then the new welfare rules arrived, spread out all the way to 2040.

This short, angry column explains what was lost, and why this government could still make history if it listened to the majority instead of the loudest voices. It takes two minutes to read, and it's worth every one of them.
